Why would I need implants?

You may lose teeth due to trauma, decay, gum disease, accident or injury. If you lose teeth for any reason, it is important to replace them so they not only function better but also improve the appearance of your mouth. Dental implants are the best solution to replace your missing teeth.

A dental implant is a titanium metal rod, which is placed in the jawbone, commonly both the false tooth and its supporting rod are referred as to as an implants. Dental implants are popular for replacing broken teeth. A dental implant will look the same as your natural teeth; they are strong, durable and identical to natural teeth. The success rate of dental implants is between 90-95% and depends on the part of your mouth having the implant. The upper jaw is more difficult to treat than the lower jaw.

The treatment may take between an hour to an hour and a half to complete the dental implant procedure. The time taken will depend on the nature of treatment and whether you have had a bone graft or more than one tooth replaced.

After the dental implant treatment, it is better to avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, hot drinks and spicy meals for 48 hours.

The dentist will give you instructions to follow after the dental implant treatment. If you carefully follow the instructions you will gain optimum results from the dental implant treatment.

A dental implant can last betwen 15 to 20 years.

Dental Implant Procedure

  • The dentist will examine your teeth and understand the positioning of your teeth and the condition of your jaw. Your jaw needs to have enough bone density to hold the implant. If you have bone loss, you may require a bone graft. The gum tissue is opened to expose the bone area where the implant will be placed. The implant then becomes part of the lower jaw during a healing process of 3-6months.

  • The dentist will re–open the gum incision to reveal the implant. A small metal post will be placed on the implant to build the connection between the implant and a replacement tooth. After that the dentist will fix the tooth to the implant
